TMEA, Texas Music Educators Association, sponsors the Texas All-State audition process to promote students' dedication to their musical knowledge and skill and to encourage TMEA member directors to support their students in this development. Beginning each fall, over 70,000 high school students across the state audition in their TMEA Region. Individual musicians perform selected music for a panel of judges who rank each instrument or voice part. A select group of musicians advances to compete against musicians from other Regions in their TMEA Area. The highest-ranking musicians judged at the TMEA Area competitions qualify to perform in one of 15 Texas All-State Bands, Orchestras, and Choirs. These All-State ensembles rehearse for three days, directed by nationally recognized conductors, and perform on the closing day of the annual TMEA Clinic/Convention.
The All-State audition process for high school choir students leads ultimately to qualification in one of four All-State Choirs that perform at the annual TMEA Clinic/Convention: Treble Choir, Tenor-Bass Choir, Mixed Choir, and Small School Mixed Choir. Students attending 1A-6A schools are eligible to audition for any choir, but only 4A down to 1A may audition for the Small School Mixed Choir. Since the creation of the Small School Mixed Choir in 2015, the Borger HS choir students have auditioned for the Small School Mixed Choir.
On September 22, 2018, Borger HS Choir students competed in the All-District Small School Choir Auditions at Pampa High School. This contest can include choir students from any public or private school district, as well as, homeschool students, in the Texas Panhandle north of Plainview. At this contest, the top thirty-two students in each section, soprano, alto, tenor, bass, were selected to move on to the All-Region Choir Audition. Below is a list of the Borger HS students who auditioned and their chair, ranking. Those with a * will be moving on to the Small School All-Region Choir Auditions November 3 at Randall High School. The top 16 students in each section will be selected to move on to the Pre-Area contest in December. BHS Choirs are under the direction of Amy Green.

Several members of the BHS Speech and Debate Team competed in 2 tournaments in one day at the Yellow City Swing Tournament. In the Tascosa side, Pearson Bailey and Lars Nelson took 5th in Cross-Examination debate, Addison Hook took 3rd in Lincoln-Douglas Debate and Kayli Munn took 2nd in Informative Speaking. On the Amarillo High side, Alyssa Perez took 4th in Lincoln Douglas Debate and Kayli Munn once again took the 2nd place trophy in Informative Speaking. Instructors are Cody Duncan and Steve Watson.

Crockett scholars visited Happy State Bank to interview for jobs as tellers at the Happy State Kids Bank. The Kids Bank program helps students learn the importance of saving and has been incorporated as part of the financial literacy curriculum at Crockett and Gateway. Tabatha Smith, Counselor at Crockett elementary and sponsor for the Kids Bank stated, “I believe one of the greatest gifts we can teach our children is financial literacy. This prepares them to be successful adults. Hands-on banking gives children the opportunity to experience real-world banking that they do not experience in the classroom.” Students may make deposits at the Crockett/Gateway campus on designated bank days. The conference featured lectures and presentations by UIL contest directors, college professors, and high school teachers. Sessions included discussions on contest preparation, demonstrations, performances and contest administration. Students may choose from novice and advanced sessions in some academic areas, as well as small-group sessions in specific UIL activities. The information and knowledge gained will now be used to prepare students for UIL academic and speech contests in the Spring.
