                          Marc Diaz, Mollie fite, Briley Cano      Three Borger High School students were recently awarded Borger Classroom Teachers Association (B.C.T.A.) Scholarships.      Every year B.C.T.A. offers scholarships to Borger High School seniors in the amount of $200.00 a semester for a possible maximum of $1,600. One scholarship may be awarded to a BHS student who will be majoring in education.  Two other scholarships may be awarded to a current B.C.T.A member’s child majoring in any field. B.C.T.A. offers the fourth scholarship on an “as needed” basis to a Borger ISD employee in the same amount as above.      This years’ B.C.T.A members’ winners are Briley Cano and Molly Fite.      Briley is the daughter of Michael and Abbie Cano.  She will be attending Texas Tech University in the Pre-dental program.      Mollie is the daughter of Johnny and Melissa Fite.  She will be attending Oklahoma State University majoring in International Business.      Marc Diaz was awarded the education scholarship. He will be attending West Texas A & M University majoring in Elementary education.   Marc is the son of  Gracie Villescas and Adam Diaz.

Borger Independent School District funds two classes per semester for each student that wishes to participate in the dual-enrollment program.  Because of this firm commitment to post-secondary education 200 students in the junior and senior classes take around 500 classes each semester.    Also, local partnerships with CP Chem, Phillips 66, Solvay and others fund many scholarships for these highly motivated students.  At Borger High School, we still believe we can change the world.

Over the past few weeks the Borger High School choirs have competed at the UIL Choir Contest and the Dumas Festival. The Junior Varsity Choir Competed at UIL High School Choir Contest and received a rating of Excellent. Lars Nelson and Hope Sharp returned for the second year in a row to the UIL State Academic Meet in Austin.  Lars competed in Science and Hope in Ready Writing. At this level they are competing against eleven other students in Class 4A to determine who medals for the top six places in all events, top teams, and top scores in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. This year Lars placed 3rd overall in Science and 1st for Top Score in Biology and Hope placed 8th in Ready Writing!  A HUGE Congratulations to Lars and Hope for an outstanding job in representing Borger High School! Also thank you to Brenda Wilson, UIL Coordinator, Jessica Washer, Ready Writing Coach and Theresa Trapp, Science Coach.
